Giving Thursday with Housing Whitefish Housing Whitefish | An organization committed to increasing community housing options in Whitefish for those that want to live, work and play in our community.

Housing affordability has been a growing issue in Whitefish. It has become increasing unattainable for our workforce to rent homes, let alone purchase them. The median home price hovers close to $1m and rental vacancy rates remain low, limiting options for renters.

Housing Whitefish works across three lanes: direct assistance for renters under pressure right now; housing development to grow the stock of permanently affordable homes; and advocacy and policy to change the conditions that make housing unaffordable in the first place.

Giving Thursday with Flathead Avalanche Flathead Avalanche | Flathead Avalanche, a partnership between the Flathead National Forest Avalanche Center (FAC) and the Friends of the Flathead Avalanche Center (FOFAC), is committed to reducing avalanche incidents and fatalities in Northwest Montana through forecasting, education, and outreach.

Flathead Avalanche is Northwest Montana’s Tier 1 avalanche center, providing daily avalanche forecasts and safety information across an approximately 1,800-square-mile forecast region—roughly 1.2 million acres of public land—from the Ten Lakes area near Eureka to Marias Pass and south to Condon. We forecast for the Whitefish, Flathead, and Swan ranges, as well as portions of the Apgar, Livingston, and Lewis ranges in Glacier National Park, serving both motorized and non-motorized winter recreation users.

Our daily forecasting season typically runs from November/December through April/May, depending on conditions, with approximately 125 forecasts issued each winter, seven days a week. In addition to forecasting, Flathead Avalanche provides youth avalanche education, public motorized and non-motorized avalanche courses, free community outreach programs, maintains six weather stations, and offers free forecasting tools and daily advisories through FlatheadAvalanche.org and the Avy App.
